Met with Jenna Kelly from Film North, a Business Executive based in Minneopolis, Minnesota.
As part of my BSc (Hons) Business with Education Degree program, I have the option to have a year long placement year. This is a fantastic opportunity, giving students industrial experience within globally re-nowned companies, aswell as local companies, or possibly their own company!
For my placement year, I have given significant thought regarding what the best option, I would personally benefit from. I have consulted with many businesses & networked with industry leading professionals, to understand and gain advice on my options. Following this, and after attending an Enterprise Placement Year (EPY) Webinar, I have applied for my 2024-25 Enterprise Placement Year, lead by Jackie Smith Assos. CIPD, Ulster University's Employablity Consultant. In my case, I have labelled EPY on my CV as a Brand & Business Executive, as this is similar to my role within my own company.
What is EPY?
The Enterprise Placement year is an incredible opportunity, giving students like me, with an existing business, or have an idea, develop, grow and scale their businesses.
What's Different compared to a Traditional Placement?
Compared to being placed in industry, I may miss out on Employment experience, an employer’s reference and perhaps, a reliable income
How do I apply?
Firstly I will obtain approval from your placement tutor/course director, then submit an application which takes the form of a short business proposal. This will be considered by a panel, and if successful you will be invited to an interview to further discuss your plans for your Enterprise Placement Year. - Update: I have had a meeting with Jackie Smyth (Assos CIPD) and have been granted access onto the program, and due to onboard in September 2024.
